 Becca's MANIFEST:

I hope that you enjoy reading a few blog posts about women and art in history: women's role in art, women artists and their messages in their art throughout history. I will be writing posts analyzing pieces by many women artists, going to art events in the bay area and hashing out the value their pieces had to me, and following along with the book Women, Art, and Society by Whitney Chadwick. My first few posts about art pieces will be in a formalists style so don't expect too much historic or interpretive evaluation. But rather be prepares for more stylistic and detail understanding. The topic of women and art is important to me. I think I'm still searching for confidence and self identity and art is a place that I personally feel at home, confident and unstoppable. Also I think that living in a world where societies expectations hold a lot of pressure makes it harder to feel empowered at times. Therefore, I'd love to dig deeper into some tricky topics like Societies of Control, Beauty in the Mass Media, the authority beauty has over perceptions and identity and much more.

UPCOMING ART EVENTS in The Bay AREA:

3/3/17 - 4/26/17:  Pro Arts Gallery, The New Situationists Exhibition in Oakland

2/20/17 - 5/21/17:  Lynn Hershman's Exhibition at the Yerba Buena Center in SF
